Senior citizen allegedly sent Barnaby Joyce by-election bullet
Barnaby Joyce’s by-election bullet and threat was allegedly sent by a 74-year-old man.
A 74-year-old man has been charged after allegedly sending a threatening letter with a bullet to Barnaby Joyce’s electorate office in Tamworth in the lead-up to the New England by-election, in northern NSW.
The man is also alleged to have made a threatening call to Mr Joyce’s parents at about 3:20 on the afternoon of Saturday December 23 and is due to appear at the Armidale Local Court on Monday February 12.
NSW Police are not naming the individual, but The Australian understands the letter was protesting against the Adani mine in Queensland’s Galilee basin and made clear the bullet was meant personally for Mr Joyce.
The man was arrested at about 11am on Thursday morning and charged with “one count of using a carriage service” to menace harass or offend and one count of stalking and intimidation meant to cause fear.
The man was conditionally bailed.
