Salim Mehajer’s $2950-a-week mansion ‘taken off rental market’
The western Sydney mansion of disgraced property developer Salim Mehajer has been removed from the rental market.
The western Sydney mansion of disgraced property developer Salim Mehajer, who had been seeking a tenant to pay $2950 a week, has been removed from the rental market more than two months after it was listed.
It has also emerged that the former deputy mayor of Auburn council put forward the six-bedroom, four-level property in Francis Street, Lidcombe, as surety to allow his bankrupt parents, who allegedly owe the Australian Taxation Office $10 million, to travel overseas.
The property was advertised for rent in early August, boasting it sought tenants who “enjoy the finer things in life”, but experts said it was extremely unlikely the suburban property about 30 minute’s drive west of the city’s CBD would fetch anywhere near the asking price.
A small Lidcombe real estate agency, Surething Realty, last week updated the advertisement for the home to read “deposit taken” and advertisements for the property were later removed from online real estate sites.
The Australian has been unable to reach Surething Realty in recent weeks and the phone for the company rang out yesterday.
The occupancy status of the property remained unclear.
Mr Mehajer, facing a string of legal battles including alleged electoral fraud, recently lost a NSW Supreme Court appeal to prevent two of his companies that owe creditors $100m from being put in administration.
Lands titles records show the mansion has two further caveats over it, including a $1.701m mortgage Mr Mehajer took out from JFI Holdings on August 10, 2015.
