Perth underworld figure John Kizon has left a trail of destruction after crashing his luxury BMW near Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital during a suspected medical episode.

Police said today a 56-year-old man was in a critical but stable condition at the hospital.

Mr Kizon, a convicted heroin trafficker, smashed his car into a parked vehicle and several bollards before hitting a tree on Hospital Avenue in Nedlands last night.

It is understood he was trying to reach the hospital’s emergency department.

A police spokesman said officers responded to a traffic crash at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital at 9.40pm.

“A 56-year-old man was driving a BMW when he collided with a parked vehicle, before travelling through several bollards and into a tree,” he said.

“The driver is believed to have suffered a medical episode. He was treated at the scene and conveyed to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for treatment.”

Mr Kizon is well known in Perth’s nightclub and entertainment district of Northbridge.

In 1998, he was a pallbearer at the funeral of his friend, Melbourne crime boss Alphonse Gangitano, who was killed in the city’s gangland wars.
