Whitlam government minister dead at 95

LIFELONG Labor Party warrior Clyde Cameron, who sat in the House of Representatives for 31 years, has died in Adelaide. He was 94.

LIFELONG Labor Party warrior Clyde Cameron, who sat in the House of Representatives for 31 years, has died in Adelaide. He was 94.

Premier Mike Rann today paid tribute to the former Whitlam Government minister, a prolific chronicler of Labor Party history.

"Clyde Cameron is a legend of the Labor movement and made a significant impact on the contribution to Australian politics and our way of life in the 20th century,” he said.

"Clyde Cameron will be best remembered for his lifelong commitment to Australian workers and their welfare. Together with his good friend Don Dunstan, he also also pioneered multiculturalism in Australia.”

Born in on 11 February 1914 at Murray Bridge in South Australia, he was a member of the House of Representatives for 31 years from 1949 to 1980, and a Cabinet minister in the Whitlam government.
