John Kennerley funeral: heartbroken KAK farewells husband who was the love of her life
Kerri-Anne Kennerley rested a hand on her beloved husband, John’s casket as he was laid to rest in Sydney today.
She wore a brightly-coloured dress because her beloved husband ‘hated black’, but for Kerri-Anne Kennerley it was the darkest of days.
The TV personality sobbed as she laid her husband of 35 years to rest today: his funeral coming almost three years after a tragic fall from a balcony which left him a quadriplegic.
John, 78, died on February 28 of complications from pneumonia, with the wife he adored and his son, Simon, at his side.
Among the hundreds of mourners at All Saints Anglican Church in Woollahra were KAK’s Studio 10 co-hosts Sarah Harris, Angela Bishop and Joe Hildebrand; Nine entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins, Deborah Hutton and Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove.
Other familiar faces included Tim Webster, Anita Jacoby, swimming great Dawn Fraser
and Prue MacSween, former News Corp boss John Hartigan and Andrew Banks.
Kerri-Anne broke down sobbing, laying her hand on Mr Kennerley’s casket as it was loaded into the hearse at the conclusion of the service.
Atop the casket were two of John’s beloved model trains.
At one point during the service mourners were moved to laughter over an anecdote of John taking his celebrity wife to a model train convention.
The emotional farewell featured eulogies by Sue Bleakley and Paul Kennerley, Simon Kennerley, John Kehoe and Rob Joske. In his eulogy to his father, son Simon paid tribute to Mr Kennerley’s “tremendous life”.
“I love you dearly, Dad. I am proud to be your son. I miss you already,” he said.
Announcing his death on Instagram, Kerri-Anne wrote: “It’s with a heavy heart and awful sadness that I let you know that my beautiful husband John passed away”.
“John, you were the love of my life.”
