ONE of the separated Bangaldeshi twins is awake and the other is expected to be woken later today.

Surgeon Virginia Maixner said this morning that Trishna was awake and being cuddled by her Australian legal guardian Moria Kelly.

The three-year-old girls were separated on Tuesday after a marathon 32 hour surgery at Melbourne's Royal Childrens' Hospital.

"Trishna is awake and she looks absolutely fantastic," she told Melbourne radio this morning. "Krishna still is asleep..and we plan to wake up her up today, but she is very stable and she looks really good."

She said the MRI scans down yesterday were very good and expected for Krishna to wake up today. Dr Maximer said Trishna was ready to come out of intensive care but they want to keep her close to her sister.

"I am very very positive. Trishna, I think, has sailed through,'' she said. "Krishna still has a few things ahead of her...but I am really positive that she has come through fine."
