A man who was mowed down by a car in an inner-Melbourne brawl on Sunday has not had his leg amputated, despite claims his limb had been removed.
David Bilal, an 18-year-old from Fitzroy, is an serious but stable condition in the Alfred Hospital. Acting Deputy Commissioner Bob Hill told reporters yesterday his leg had been removed in surgery.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman and an Alfred Hospital spokeswoman have both confirmed to The Australian today that Mr Bilal has a seriously injured leg but it has not been surgically removed.
Police revealed yesterday Mr Bilal is a witness to the recent death of Melbourne student Laa Chol, who was stabbed at a party in Melbourne’s CBD in July.
However, Deputy Commissioner Hill said yesterday detectives do not believe it was a revenge attack.
One of the acts at the launch — after which six other people were hospitalised — reportedly performed a tribute song in Chol’s honour.
A 18-year-old man was arrested over the assault on Mr Bilal on the weekend, but he has been released pending further inquiries.
