Accused killer and my son were not best friends, says Angry Anderson
Angry Anderson says he knew son Liam’s main group of friends and the man charged with murdering him wasn’t amongst them.
Angry Anderson has spoken out against the man charged with murdering his son Liam, rejecting claims they were “best friends”.
The grieving father and rock star said Mathew Flame, the man accused of killing his 26-year-old son, “wasn’t in Liam’s main group of friends”.
“If he was Liam’s best friend, I would have known him,” he said during an interview with The Daily Telegraph at his family home. “He would have been here, around this table, eating with us and the others.”
Mr Anderson said he had learned of his son’s death on Sunday while he was in Perth, having performed there with his band Rose Tattoo the night before. When Liam’s brother Galen phoned, he did not recognise the name of the man mentioned as his son’s suspected killer.
Liam Anderson was found dying on Sunday morning in a Queenscliff park on Sydney’s northern beaches.
It is understood he and his alleged killer, 20-year-old plumbing apprentice Mr Flame, were part of larger group at a house party on the Saturday night.
Mr Anderson said he had raised his son to “always do the right thing” and “look after people … That’s what Liam was doing on Sunday morning.”
Court documents say the group consumed alcohol and took MDMA capsules during the night, when Mr Anderson, fearing for his friend’s safety, followed him out of the house when he tried to leave about 4am.
“Liam was trying to help him,” Mr Anderson told The Daily Telegraph. “He was such a decent human being.”
Police allege that outside the house, Mr Flame began kicking and punching Mr Anderson.
Liam Anderson’s siblings said Mr Flame had never been a part of his close group of friends.
