A TANTALISING teaser of Megan Washington’s new musical film is wowing fans. WATCH NOW

HER special subject on Rockwiz was movie musicals, now Megan Washington stars in one.

The one-time Brisbane schoolgirl grew up on a steady diet of Hollywood musicals including Easter Parade and Kiss Me Kate and makes her film debut in The Boy Castaways alongside a cast including You Am I’s Tim Rogers and cabaret star Paul Capsis.

While other classmates were dreaming of rock stardom, Washington said she wanted to be Judy Garland when she grew up.

The film premieres at the Adelaide Festival this month and a trailer shows Washington singing an orchestrated version of Fleetwood Mac’s Don’t Stop.

Washington plays the female lead in the film, which was written and directed by theatre director Michael Kantor.

Washington spent most of the year in London working on her second album and unveiled new material when she played a set at the Bigsound music conference in Brisbane this month.

She received national attention when she was chosen as a mentor on the first series of the Australian version of the Voice, helping country superstar Keith Urban mentor the contestants on their way to fame.
