‘Master Lion’ Kwang Kyung Yoo killed taekwondo student just after black belt ceremony, police allege
Police claim taekwondo teacher ‘Master Lion’ showered at his victims’ home and wore their clothes after strangling a child to death.
Kwang Kyung Yoo, the taekwondo instructor alleged to have killed a family of three, strangled a seven-year-old boy to death an hour after presenting him with his black belt, police claim.
Yoo, 49, is said to have killed both Min Cho and the child inside his Lion’s taekwondo and Martial Arts Studio in North Parramatta on February 19.
Yoo allegedly then drove Mrs Cho’s car to her Baulkham Hills home and fatally stabbed her husband Steven Cho to death, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Police claimed he remained on the premises, where he showered in the couple’s ensuite, then dressed in the clothes of the man he was just alleged to have killed and covered Mr Cho’s corpse with a towel, before leaving the property.
The newspaper reported that the chest wounds for which Yoo admitted himself to hospital were self-inflicted. Police have previously said they would allege he received the injuries while stabbing Mr Cho.
Following the alleged triple murder, Yoo is said to have returned to his own North Kellyville home where his spouse saw him and urged him to go to a hospital.
Yoo was arrested at Westmead Hospital following treatment for his injuries.
Police have not released a motive for the alleged crimes that they would present in court.
Yoo, known as Master Lion in his taekwondo community, was previously found to have faked a number of sporting accolades and a university professorship.
“It’s not only tragic in circumstances but the consequences were cataclysmic,” Homicide Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty said in February.
“They’ve had their lives taken away in what we allege was a murder.”
The extended family of the victims have arrived from South Korea to assist in planning the funerals, which will be held next week.
Following that, Yoo will return to court in April. He did not apply for bail when he first fronted court in February from his hospital bedside.
