A COOK book penned by an earlier settler in 1878 offers handy tips on how to turn bandicoots, flying foxes and other critters into delicious meals.

BOILED bandicoot, parrot soup and stewed flying fox were apparently part of the menu for early Australian settlers.

THE Queensland Cookery and Poultry Book, penned by Wilhelmina Frances Rawson in 1878, was written as a guide to being a housewife on an outback Queensland station.
