Westpac commits $10m in relief funds to NSW and Qld flood victims
The nation’s second largest bank will commit $10m in flood relief to customers affected by the recent east coast superstorm.
Westpac will commit $10m in relief funds to support customers severely affected by damaging flooding in NSW and Queensland.
Australia’s second largest bank will provide customers, businesses and employees with emergency grants as part of its support for the natural disaster event that has inundated large areas of the east coast.
Households will be able to access $3000 grants immediately to help costs for essential items and services.
The bank will also provide $5000 business grants to assist with covering the costs of damages caused by storms and floods.
Westpac executive Chris de Bruin said the emergency relief was only the first step in the long recovery from the ordeal.
“The recent severe weather events have impacted tens of thousands of residents, and
caused devastation to homes, farms and businesses across NSW and
Queensland,” Mr de Bruin said.
“These grants give our impacted customers and employees one less thing to worry about as they start to get back on their feet.”
Westpac’s grants follow rival NAB announcing it would commit $3m to assist its customers affected by the floods.
The bank has also extended its emergency assistance package, which includes loan repayment deferral and temporary increases in overdraft limits.
Affected Westpac customers can call 1800 067 497 for assistance.
