The United Kingdom has joined Ukraine and Poland in a new, trilateral military alliance aimed at combating “Russian aggression” in Eastern Europe.

The UK’s foreign office announced the new pact with Poland and Ukraine to work together on “cyber security, energy security, and boosting strategic communications to counter disinformation.”

It comes as the US warned the United Nations Security Council that Russia was on a “path to war”.

Western leaders accused Russia of moving more troops to Ukraine’s borders, expelling diplomats from Moscow, blaming Ukraine for a “false flag” bombing on a Kindergarten and even stocking up on its supplies of blood.

Ukraine’s Foriegn Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced the alliance at a joint press conference with British Secretary of State Elizabeth Truss.

It came soon after Ms Truss said the shelling of a Ukraine kindergarten as straight out of Russia’s “disinofrmaiton” playbook.

British Prime Minsiter Boris Johnson said the “false flag” operation was designed to discredit Ukrainians and “create a pretext, a spurious provocation for Russian action”.

“We fear very much that is the kind of thing we will see more of over the next few days. The picture is continuing to be very grim,” he added.

A joint statement from the UK, Poland and Ukraine said each European State is free to choose or change its military alliances, and no state could consider any part of Europe as “it’s sphere of influence”.

“The UK and Poland will continue to provide Ukraine with support, standing in unity with Ukraine, in the face of ongoing Russian aggression, and fully committed to stand with Ukrainian nation in its efforts aimed at defending Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders,” a statement read.

“Our three nations will intensify our joint work to safeguard stability and build resilience in Ukraine, strengthening democracy at the frontier in Eastern Europe.”

The announcement comes two weeks after leaders from the three nations met to discuss greater co-operation amid the looming threat of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
