A man and a woman have been found dead in a western Sydney shop.
At about 9.40am on Saturday, Nepean Police Area Command was called to a store on Oxford St, Cambridge Park, where they found two bodies.
The deceased pair are married couple Hoa Tek Chien, 69, and Heang Kim Gau, 68, who ran the Buzzy Bee’s Burger House together and were killed in a robbery that spiralled out of control.
The pair have owned and operated the shop for decades and are beloved members of the community.
Their son tragically discovered their bodies and immediately called triple-zero.
Addressing the media from St Marys Police Station at 2pm, Detective Superintendent Michael Cantrell called it a “confronting scene” where the pair were found with “significant injuries”.
“The family are obviously devastated and they are assisting police,” he said.
“The investigation is in its infancy. There are many lines of inquiry. We do not have any targets at this point.
“We have no intelligence to suggest that there’s any further threat.”
The couple are believed to have sustained multiple stab wounds, with police reportedly treating the incident as a targeted attack.
Officers attached to the case are now chasing up social media footage they believe may indicate the suspected killer, who was a man seen near the restaurant.
“I’m aware that there is footage around, and it’s been through social media, and we’re looking into that and looking at all lines of inquiry. It shows a male in the vicinity. The time is yet to be confirmed, but it’s certainly a line of inquiry at this point,” he said.
“We’ve got video footage of numerous things early this morning, and we’re looking into that now. There’s footage of persons in the vicinity around the time that they were located. I’m not going to indicate the specifics of it.
Locals described the pair as extremely friendly, beloved members of the community who will be missed.
“When my husband and I heard about it, we had to come here and pay our respects, they’re such lovely people and their food is great,” a man told Nine News.
Witnesses have been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
