Two men rescued after Sunshine Coast plane crash
The men miraculously survived unscathed after the aircraft crashed into the ocean several kilometres off Maroochydore on Friday morning.
Emergency services have rescued two men after their plane crashed in waters off the Sunshine Coast on Friday morning.
The men miraculously survived the crash, several kilometres off Maroochydore, and were winched to safety as they clung to a life raft.
The Australian understands the aircraft made a call for help before crashing into the ocean shortly before 9am.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said two rescue helicopters were dispatched to the scene.
“QAS and rescue helicopters are responding to a light aircraft that went down in the water off the Sunshine Coast,’’ the spokeswoman said.
“We have observed two persons who were reportedly in a life raft.’’
“Both adult men have been rescued and have been taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.”
A Queensland Police spokesman said the crash happened several kilometres off the coast.
“We have water police assets who are ready to go at the moment, we can only send boats out at the moment,’’ the spokesman said.
QAS and QPS have declined to comment on the condition of the pilot, who was not one of the two rescued.
Sunshine Coast water police are responding.
