Arnold Schwarzenegger's candid message to Russians: 'I have to tell the truth'

He’s back, but this time Arnold Schwarzenegger is fighting for Ukraine’s freedom.

The Terminator actor released a video message to Vladimir Putin calling for an end to his “senseless” war, revealing the Schwarzenegger family’s Nazi past in an appeal for Russian troops to lay down their weapons.

The former governor is part of a growing effort to pierce Putin’s digital iron curtain broadcast the reality of the Ukraine war to the people of Russia.

“I know that your government has told you that this is a war to do ‘de-Nazify’ Ukraine,” Schwarzenegger said.

“This is not true. Those in power in the Kremlin started this war. This is not the Russian people’s war.”

It comes as Moscow ramped up its own efforts with a huge rally for Putin, but cracks have been showing in the digital armour with anti-war messages continuing to break through the Kremlin’s wall of propaganda.

Marina Ovsyannikova, an editor for Russia’s Channel One, continued speaking out against the war despite potentially facing 15-years in prison for her on-air “NO WAR” protest.

She said even her mum was “brainwashed... and I think that 50 per cent of our society are like my mum”.

It followed Russian filmmaker Karen Shakhnazarov and commentator Semyon Bagdasarov appeared on Kremlin-controlled channel Rossiya 1 demanding the country “stop our military action”.

“Do we need to get into another Afghanistan, but even worse?” Bagdasarov said,

In the latest effort, the Austrian-born former body released a nine-minute video recounting father invading Russia during World War II all “pumped up” on the lies of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany.

“When he left Leningrad he was broken physically and mentally. He lived the rest of his life in pain, pain from a broken back. Pain from the shrapnel that always reminded him of his terrible years, and pain from the guilt that he felt,” Schwarzenegger said.

“To the Russian troops listening to this broadcast... you already know much of the truth I’ve been speaking. You’ve seen it with your own eyes. I don’t want you to be broken like my father.

“This is not the war to defend Russia that your grandfathers or your great-grandfathers fought,” he continued. “This is an illegal war. Your lives, your limbs, your futures have been sacrificed for a senseless war condemned by the entire world.
