Tennis star Jelena Dokic's dad Damir released from prison

DAMIR Dokic is out after almost a year in jail for threatening to bomb the Australian embassy in Belgrade.

DAMIR Dokic has been released from prison after almost a year behind bars for threatening to bomb the Australian embassy in Belgrade.

Australian tennis star Jelena Dokic's father and former coach is on parole until May 6 and can be returned to jail if there is any repeat of his outbursts of last year.

Lawyer Bosiljka Djukic said Mr Dokic was released from jail in the western Serbian town of Sabac about 6pm local time and took a taxi home.

His freedom came three days after his daughter's 27th birthday, but a reunion is unlikely as Jelena has categorically ruled out seeing her father again.

Mr Dokic, 51, was arrested at his Serbian home last May after making threats in a phone call to the embassy and in an interview with a Serbian newspaper.

He had been enraged by his daughter's comments in a magazine interview that she had fled his physical abuse.

Police found two illegal hand grenades and a box of 20 illegal bullets, as well as seven licensed rifles.

He was originally jailed for 15 months but in February an appeals court reduced the sentence to a year.

Former world No.4 Jelena staged a comeback to make last year's Australian Open quarter finals but has struggled for form of late.
