Chilling CCTV captures man buying shovel before woman is buried alive

Shocking video has emerged showing a killer buying supplies at a Bunnings store before he buried his ex-partner alive.

CCTV captured before killing

Chiling footage has emerged showing a killer buying a shovel and cable ties at a hardware store a day before he buried his ex-girlfriend alive.

Tarikjot Singh abducted his former girlfriend Jasmeen Kaur in an act of revenge in March 2021.

Her body was found in a shallow grave, with her hands bound and eyes blindfolded.

The day before she was killed, Singh was caught on CCTV strolling around a Bunnings store at Mile End in Adelaide’s inner west.

In the footage Singh is signing in at Covid-19 point, before strolling the store with a trolley and at one point asking a staff member for help.

He used cash to purchase cable ties, gaffer tape, gloves and a shovel, which he would eventually use to bury Ms Kaur.

The release of the video, which aired on 9News, comes after Singh learned his fate in the South Australian Supreme Court.

Justice Adam Kimber sentenced Singh to 22 years and 10 months imprisonment for the murder of his former partner Jasmeen Kaur.

Ms Kaur was an aged care worker who had previously gone to the police for help after her “possessive” ex-boyfriend threatened suicide after the pair broke up.

She had also shared that Singh had tried to control who she spent time with and “got upset” when she tried to go out with friends.

Ms Kaur was finishing an afternoon shift at an aged care centre when she was abducted by Singh on March 5, 2021.

At the time, police believed she had been stalked for weeks before she disappeared.

When police questioned Singh about her whereabouts, he told officers that Ms Kaur had taken her own life, and he had buried her in the Flinders Ranges, north of Adelaide.

The next day, he led police to the site and uncovered Ms Kaur, who was buried under only 30cm of sand with her hands bound, eyes blindfolded and throat cut.

The wounds were found to be superficial, and Ms Kaur had been buried alive.

In sentencing, Justice Kimber said he couldn’t “adequately describe how Ms Kaur must have felt when (she was) placed in the grave”.

“What is clear is that the way you chose to kill Ms Kaur was callous in the extreme,” he said.

“The enormity of what you were doing must have been clear to you.

“There was time for reflection. There was time to depart from the plan.”

On Tuesday afternoon, Ms Kaur’s family released a statement, saying they wished she was still by their side.

“We welcome the sentence given but what I can say is that my family and I have already started our life sentence having to spend the rest of our lives without Jasmeen,” a family member shared.

“Today I do not feel happy. I wish that I was not giving this statement and that Jasmeen was still here by my side.

“I talk to her every day, we say goodnight to our children, don’t we?

“On behalf of my family, I would like to thank the justice system of Australia, police members and media for supporting us and Jasmeen.

“It was a tough journey, but you all made it easy for us.”

Singh will be eligible for parole in January 2044.
