SA oil spill could kill fisheries, tourism

THE Wilderness Society has released modelling showing an oil spill in the Great Australian Bight would destroy SA fisheries, tourism and marine life.

AN oil spill in the Great Australian Bight risks closing all fisheries from South Australia to Victoria and Tasmania, modelling commissioned by The Wilderness Society shows.

BP has applied to drill four exploration wells off the great Australian Bight next year, and the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority is expected to hand down its decision this month.
