A climate action protester has glued her hand to a historical painting inside Parliament House to protest fossil fuel subsidies.

Federal police were called into Parliament House in Canberra around 10.15am after a woman glued herself to an artwork depicting the suffragettes’ movement.

A man who was part of the demonstration was escorted out of Parliament House moments ago.

The group is calling on the Government to stop all subsidies to the fossil fuels industry.

The woman has been removed from Parliament House and issued a banning notice.

It is the latest in a string of protest actions targeting major art galleries around the globe to draw attention to the climate crisis.

Extinction Rebellion activists glued their hands to a Picasso painting at the National Gallery of Victoria in October.

The painting was not damaged as it was protected by a sheet of perspex plastic.

The NCA Newswire have contacted the Australian Federal Police for comment.

More to come.
