A major police search is under way after two men injured a Victorian police officer before ramming two police cars.
Police were called for a welfare check on the men on Kings Way in South Melbourne just after 3am on Friday after the pair were seen slumped in a car at a petrol station.
When police arrived, the men were initially unresponsive and the attending officers positioned their vehicles on either side of the car and placed stop sticks underneath.
When the men woke up, police say they attempted to assault the officers before driving away and crashing into the police cars and another vehicle on Kings Way.
Victoria Police said one officer received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Within 40 minutes, police located the offending vehicle under the on-ramp under the West Gate freeway.
No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
