A GOLD Coast man led police on a wild chase in a stolen yellow Porsche and nearly bowled over a lollipop lady during a dramatic crime spree, a court has been told.

Craig Allan Jones pleaded guilty in Southport Magistrates Court today to 13 charges stemming from the spree in August and September last year.

The court heard how, in dramatic scenes captured from the Channel 7 helicopter, Jones:

  • Kept driving the Porsche Boxster on three wheels after crashing the luxury car into a guard rail.
  • Repeatedly drove at high speed on the wrong side of some of the Gold Coast's busiest roads, forcing other motorists to take evasive action.
  • Used bike lanes and emergency lanes to overtake other vehicles.
  • Stole a ute after crashing the Porsche a second time and then tried to ram a police car.

The court was told Jones, 24, had recently been released from jail for burglary offences and was on parole when he went on his rampage.

In August, he broke into homes and took a stolen Mazda SUV on a high-speed joy ride through a school zone at Nerang.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Greg Mckenzie said a lollipop lady and students on the crossing had to 'run and jump out of the way' as Jones sped through.

The Mazda had not been recovered, Sen-Const Mckenzie told the court.

In September, Jones led police another wild pursuit through several suburbs - first in the Porsche and then in the Nissan Navara ute.

He was arrested in the Tallebudgera Valley after driving the ute on its rims after the tyres blew out.

The court was told police found three bags of amphetamine in the Porsche.

Magistrate Catherine Pirie said she was leaning towards giving Jones the maximum penalty of three years' in jail but requested details on damage to the vehicles involved and also comparitive sentences.

The sentencing was adjourned until tomorrow.
