Police officer's heartfelt message after tragic day on Victorian roads

A man has been killed in Melbourne’s southeast overnight after his car ploughed into the side of a Coles, leading to a concrete wall collapsing on the vehicle.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are calling for any witnesses to come forward.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said it’s believed the vehicle left the road along Olympic Way in Pakenham before slamming into the back wall of the Village Lakeside Shopping Centre about 3.50am.

A slab of concrete fell on the vehicle, killing the driver outside the Pakenham centre.

“The force of the crash caused part of a concrete wall to collapse onto the vehicle, trapping the single occupant inside,” the spokeswoman said.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be established and police will prepare a report for the coroner.”
