A-League: Perth Glory could return to east coast following match in Adelaide

Perth Glory may extend their A-League road trip by one match due to the latest lockdown in Western Australia.

The Glory have been in Melbourne since January 22, and have played against the A-League’s three Victorian clubs ­– Western United, Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City ­- in that time.

As was planned, the Glory will still this week leave Melbourne for South Australia, where they will play Adelaide United on Friday night at Coopers Stadium.

The Glory are currently scheduled to return to Perth on Saturday.

However, A-League commissioner Greg O’Rourke said a decision would be made later this week ­on whether to fly the Glory back to the east coast following their clash with Adelaide.

Should that happen, it’s likely the Glory would play Brisbane Roar in Queensland in a further revamping of an already flexible and rolling A-League schedule.

The Glory are due to the play the Victory (February 13) and Melbourne City (February 20) in Perth.

Decisions on wether those matches go ahead will be made closer to their schedule dates.

Glory coach Richard Garcia said his side was “focused on what we can control”.

Garcia has been forced to rotate his squad on a game-to-game basis due to playing four games in 12 days, including Sunday’s 3-1 win over Melbourne City at AAMI Park.

“You’re always looking at how they are pulling up at training,” Garcia said.

“We really haven’t had that option; this week has been a bit longer to be able to gauge how people are travelling but it has been fine – it’s part and parcel in the job.”

City coach Patrick Kisnorbo was disappointed with how the game panned out as his side faded away after a very bright start.

“I thought in the second-half we were very flat,” Kisnorbo said.

“We started well, created a few chances and obviously we scored one of them but I thought overall we were a bit flat tonight.”

Kisnorbo was ultimately disappointed with the result as he felt his side “defeated themselves” while being made to pay due to Perth taking advantage of their limited chances.

“I think they (Perth) didn’t really create anything,” Kisnorbo said.

“It’s maybe our lack of concentration which put them in the game and then give them the lead that’s what is most disappointing,

“I thought we should have done better on the set-pieces and the first goal.”

Meanwhile, the Glory’s W-League away clash against Melbourne City that had been scheduled for Thursday night has been postponed.

But the Glory’s W-League battle with Melbourne Victory on Sunday at Epping Stadium will at this stage go ahead.
