A Bunnings store was evacuated after a suspicious device was found in one city, while there was another scare in another state after protesters left behind a box.

A Brisbane Bunnings store was evacuated after a suspicious device was found inside the warehouse, prompting specialist police to respond.

The incident unfolded at the hardware store on Sandgate Rd in Virginia, in Brisbane’s north, about 12.30pm on Friday.

An exclusion zone was set up as specialist officers assessed the suspicious item.

A Queensland Police spokesman said officers found that the item was “non-dangerous.”

“Inquiries into how the item came to business are ongoing,” the spokesman said.

“There is no threat to the public at this time.”

Meanwhile, Victoria Police were called to a business at Mackey St in North Geelong where a suspicious package was allegedly left at the reception of a business.

Police allege two female protesters were chanting and filming at the business who had to be removed by staff about 9.40am on Friday.

Police were notified about a box the protesters allegedly left behind and the Bomb Response Unit were called as officers cordoned off the area.

A Victoria police spokesman said the package the bomb squad did not find any dangerous materials inside the box and the scene was declared safe.

“Investigations into the incident remain ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage,” a spokesman said.
