Salim Mehajer arrested in Spanish cab ride

Salim Mehajer, the controversial property developer and former western Sydney deputy mayor, has reportedly been arrested in the Spanish resort city of Ibiza.

A Current Affair TV program last night ­reported Mr Mehajer and two friends were eating takeaway food in a taxi while driving through the city on Friday night when the driver became annoyed. Mr Mehajer allegedly tried to kick the taxi driver from the back seat.

Two Spanish officers then ­approach Mr Mehajer and his two friends and speak for several minutes as he attempts to show the police something on his mobile phone screen. The video then shows the officers frisking him and his friends and putting them in their police four-wheel-drive. It’s unclear what happened next.

Mr Mehajer, 30, has been travelling through Europe for the past month, and has so far visited ­Lebanon, Greece, Italy, France and Spain, documenting much of his trip on social media.

Mr Mehajer has been in the public eye since a lavish wedding to Aysha Learmonth in ­August last year involved supercars, helicopters, fighter jets and a movie, and prompted investigations into Auburn council and Mr Mehajer.

 His business dealings have also come under intense scrutiny, and he and his father, Mohamed, are ­alleged to have transferred more than $20 million to ­accounts in Lebanon.

Aysha Mehajer applied for an apprehended violence order against Mr Mehajer earlier this year, and videos of him furiously swearing and screaming were played extensively in the media.

He lost a bid to overturn an ­AVO made against him by personal trainer Bruce Herat, who said Mr Mehajer threatened him outside a gym.
