Court lets Salim Mehajer off over unregistered Ferrari

Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has escaped conviction or being fined for driving an unregistered Ferrari.

Controversial deputy mayor of Sydney’s Auburn, Salim Mehajer, who was pulled over twice in a night driving an unregistered Ferrari, has escaped conviction or being fined for the offence.

Bankstown Local Court yesterday accepted Mr Mehajer’s guilty pleas to driving the unregistered sports car on October 25, imposing no penalty but fining him $200 for not having had his licence with him.

Mr Mehajer, also a property developer facing several court battles, was pulled over in the car — with licence plates 00-BO55 — by police twice in 25 minutes.

He later accused police of trying to “tarnish” his name and called on them to “target real criminals” and “leave me alone”.

In court, Mr Mehajer’s guilty plea was formally accepted without it proceeding to conviction and the matter “dismissed”.

Driving an unregistered vehicle can incur a fine of $623.

Yesterday, Mr Mehajer was defiant. “Why don’t you consider writing something nice about me today,” he wrote to The Australian. “Both unregistered notices/ infringements were dismissed today at Bankstown Local Court.”

Mr Mehajer attracted national attention in August for his opulent wedding featuring a jet flyover, $50 million worth of sports cars and an unapproved road closure.
