Canadian author Jordan Peterson in for rowdy reception
The Canadian author and psychologist will be met with fierce protests when he embarks on a speaking tour of Australia next month.
Divisive Canadian author and psychologist Jordan Peterson will be met with fierce protests when he embarks on a speaking tour of Australia next month, left-wing activists have warned.
Peterson, who is outspoken on issues including masculinity, gender, sexuality and politics, has booked talks in all mainland capitals during November and December after selling out his previous Australian tour in 2019.
The 60-year-old was banned from Twitter in June after penning a derogatory post directed at transgender actor Elliot Page.
Sydney University students told The Daily Telegraph they would have a vocal presence outside Peterson’s shows in Sydney. Peterson was a “hard right reactionary” and had to be stood up to, Sydney University Community Action of Rainbow Rights member Owen Marsden-Readford said. “This is someone who thinks women have too many rights and demand too much of the world.”
Women’s rights activist Hersha Kadkol said it was dangerous for Peterson to be allowed to spread his views in Australia.
“I hope that he and people like him lose their influence in society, and I hope that they are defeated politically by people who are on the left and have some decency,” Ms Kadkol told The Daily Telegraph.
