Malcolm Turnbull has glossy new election branding spruiking “The Turnbull Coalition Team” but appears to have forgotten one crucial detail: the internet.
Australian Workers Union Queensland secretary Ben Swan took great delight yesterday in shelling out about $140 of the union’s money to snap up 12 domain names using various combinations of the Prime Minister’s new slogan.
Mr Swan is coy about the union’s plans for the websites, but said the AWU would consider using them to ensure the Australian people “know what Mr Turnbull stands for”.
“We just went on a shopping spree,” a laughing Mr Swan told The Australian from Ballarat, where the union is celebrating its 130th birthday.
“It’s funny but it’s also serious. This is the guy who was the communications minister in charge of the NBN rollout and all things digital who can’t do something so basic.
“We paid about $20 for each domain name. It’s just incredible and highly embarrassing for a PM who has all the resources of the Liberal Party ... to forget to do something so basic.”
Mr Turnbull’s new branding, unveiled on Monday, features a blue background with a yellow Australia in the centre, with the words “The Turnbull Coalition Team. The plan for a strong new economy” in a circle around the continent.
