Prosecutor Mark Gibson tells the Victoria County Court that George Pell should be jailed immediately over his offending, while Pell’s lawyers will attempt to convince the Court of Appeal that the jury’s verdict was unsafe or unreasonable. Criminal appeals expert Professor Jeremy Gans said the prosecution case relied on one man’s word that a newly appointed archbishop abused two boys who he had not groomed: “Not your typical paedophile.” Graham Richardson weighs in, noting that parents are scared to leave their kids along with a clergyman, given the profusion of paedophile priests.
