Military conflict between the United States and Russia is closer than at any time since the Cold War after Donald Trump confirmed plans for US airstrikes against Syria despite Russian threats that it would shoot down American missiles. Washington correspondent Cameron Stewart writes Trump must reverse his plan to withdraw US troops from Syria given the looming US military action against Damascus and the escalation of tensions with Russia.
