The boys and their coach were passed to safety ‘hand on hand’ on stretchers between rescuers, but as the last SEAL and Aussie doctor Richard Harris emerged the unthinkable happened.

Calls to axe ‘excessively generous’ solar subsidy

The competition watchdog called for rooftop solar subsidies to be axed a decade ahead of schedule to help drive down power prices, revealing households are paying an average $106-a-year to foot the bill for government environmental schemes.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission report, released today, reveals households are paying huge costs for a range of government environmental schemes in their annual power bills.

ABC chairman Justin Milne says Australia is at a “decision point” about the future of the ABC and to cripple it will lead to a further concentration of US media ownership.

“Some would argue an enlightened private sector dominated by owners in the United States will find a way of marrying commercial and Australian national interest, and produce local content about the arts, sciences, religion or music. What could possibly go wrong?”

Microsoft hits Go on iPad rival

Microsoft is taking on Apple’s iPad and Google’s Chromebook with its latest device, a cut-price Surface tablet.

The company’s new 10-inch Surface Go, which will ship in early August in Australia, will be the least expensive Surface out of the five in Microsoft’s arsenal, directly competing with the least expensive iPad which costs about the same.
