Good afternoon, readers. Amnesty International has called for the removal of anti-discrimination exemptions for some religious organisations, Malcolm Turnbull has a new chief-of-staff and NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has revealed how she plans to tackle politics with a baby.

Rights act ‘best for religious freedom’

Amnesty International has called on the Turnbull government to remove anti-discrimination exemptions for religious organisations which receive public funding or provide services on behalf of the government.

Cash ‘has serious questions to answer’

ACTU Secretary Sally McManus says federal police would not have taken lightly the decision to refer an investigation into raids on the Australian Workers’ Union.

It is understood the Australian Federal Police has confirmed to the union it will have material with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions in the next two weeks.

Turnbull shakes up his office

Clive Mathieson will replace Peter Woolcott as Malcolm Turnbull’s chief-of-staff. Mr Woolcott - who served as Australia’s High Commissioner to New Zealand - has been appointed as the next Australian Public Service Commissioner, with his term to commence on August 9.
