Australia Day honours 2017: full list of recipients

Musician Nick Cave, former prime minister Julia Gillard and surfer Mick Fanning and are among almost 1000 people honoured this Australia Day.

The recipients in the General Division of the Order of Australia are as diverse as the nation’s physical landscape, from sight-saving scientists and great legal minds, to entertainers and sporting greats, with Australia’s first female prime minister Ms Gillard among 11 people to receive the nation’s highest honour - the Companion of the Order of Australia.

Queensland scientist Alan Mackay-Sim whose pion­eering stem cell work enabled the “scientific equivalent of the moon landing” was named Australian of the Year.
