Victoria Liberal candidate Michael Lamb gets Speered in trainwreck interview
Liberal candidate Michael Lamb is caught in a trainwreck interview with Sky’s David Speers | WATCH
Victorian Liberal candidate Michael Lamb has been caught in a trainwreck interview just days after it was revealed a cafe he visited as part of a campaign doorstop was run by a woman who has previously been convicted of cultivating marijuana.
The former policeman, who is running to unseat Labor MP Paul Edbrooke in Frankston, was interviewed by Sky News Political editor David Speers yesterday. Labor holds the seat by a margin of less than one per cent on a two-party preferred basis.
State Liberal leader Matthew Guy released a plan for his government’s first 100 days if elected, which includes starting work on a tender for a new 500 MW power station.
In the excruciatingly awkward interview, Mr Lamb becomes confused over what type of power station will be built.
Liberal candidate for Frankston Michael Lamb says his party will get the private industry to build a power station in Victoria, if elected, but admits it will be at least partly taxpayer-funded.

“We’ll tender to the sector, whatever the markets decides, we’ll tender out,” he said.
“They can do that already can’t they?” Speers said. “The private sector can build a power station if they want?”
“Well, they haven’t been allowed to under this government,” Mr Lamb replied.
“Haven’t been allowed to...?” Speers asked.
“Build a power station,” Mr Lamb said.
“There’s all sorts of renewables and wind power, what are you saying?” Speers said.
“Whatever is the most reliable and affordable, the market will determine that,” Mr Lamb said.
“It’s the private industry,” Mr Lamb reiterated.
They can do that already,” Speers countered.
“Well, they haven’t,” Mr Lamb replied.
Mr Lamb eventually concedes the new power station may be renewable energy and will at least be partially funded by the taxpayer.
“I’m not saying it’s going to be coal powered. You are putting words in my mouth, it may well be renewable energy. Whatever the market determines... get the market to determine what the best way forward is,” Mr Lamb said.
“I’m still a little unsure...” Speers said.
“We are going round in circles... all my understanding is we will tender to get private industry to build a power station,” Mr Lamb said.
“With a bit of help from the state, presumably, a bit of taxpayers money?” Speers said.
“Yes,” Mr Lamb said.
“Earlier you said it wouldn’t be,” Speers commented.
“Sorry,” Mr Lamb said.

On Monday Mr Lamb visited a cafe with Matthew Guy in the electorate of Frankston to speak to mother of three Mariam Jamil to discuss her struggles with rising electricity costs.
It was later revealed Ms Jamil was prohibited from owning a cafe due to a prior conviction for cultivating marijuana.
Mr Lamb has been a senior sergeant at Frankston police station and oversees all drug investigations in the area.
Victoria heads to the polls on Saturday.
