CAMPBELL NEWMAN has been ousted from his Brisbane seat of Ashgrove with Labor on the verge of a historic victory.

CAMPBELL NEWMAN has been ousted from his Brisbane seats of Ashgrove with Labor on the verge of a historic victory just three years after suffering the worst election defeat in Australian history.

Labor leader Annastacia Palaszczuk, who headed a seven member caucus after the 20102 LNP landslide, already looks certain of having a team of 40 MPs in the 89 seat parliament.]

With votes still being counted, the swing to Labor is sitting on a double digit swing across the state.

Mr Newman has suffered an 11 per cent-plus swing to Labor’s Kate Jones, whom he defeated in 2012, after 35 per cent of the vote was counted.

The premier will be the first sitting premier to lose his seat, after becoming Australia’s first politician to lead the opposition from outside of parliament.

Mr Newman is set to be joined by other frontbench colleagues, with treasurer Tim Nicholls — tipped to replace the premier as leader — also in a tight race with Labor’s John Martin ahead in the blue blood seats of Clayfield.

Labor is currently sitting on a 13 per cent swing across the state.
