A 40-year-old federal bureaucrat has been accused of financing Islamic State terrorists in Sydney, with police alleging the Sydney woman transferred upwards of $30,000 to extremists fighting in the Iraq-Syria war.

The woman, who will appear in Parramatta Court later today, was arrested by detectives from the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team at her home in Sydney’s west.

At a press conference held today police alleged the woman made five transfers between February-October 2015, totalling more than $30,000.

The funds were transferred via Western Union.

Police said the arrest was part of Operation Peqin, a major counter terrorism operation that focused on, among others, the group of extremists who shot Curtis Chang.
