Embattled Labor MP Emma Husar will take personal leave amid damaging allegations she has mistreated her staff.

Ms Husar, who represents the NSW electorate of Lindsay, said the days since the allegations and the investigation into the claims were revealed had been “incredibly difficult” for her family and resulted in death threats.

“I’m a single mum and my first priority is the safety and wellbeing of my children,” she said in a statement.

“I have received threatening messages including threats of violence and have referred them to the Australian Federal Police.”

“The best thing for me and my family right now is for us to be out of the spotlight so I can access support.”

Labor Leader Bill Shorten defended Ms Husar on Tuesday, saying she was a “hardworking member in her electorate”.
