Commonwealth DPP may lay charges over leaks from Michaelia Cash’s office
Federal prosecutors are weighing up laying charges over leaks from Michaelia Cash’s office about union office raids.
The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions is considering whether to lay charges over leaks from Michaelia Cash’s office about raids on union offices after receiving a complete brief of evidence from the Australian Federal Police.
The Federal Court heard this week the AFP sent a brief of complete evidence on Monday for assessment by the CDPP.
An AFP spokesman confirmed today that a brief of evidence had been referred to CDPP.
“The matter relates to an investigation into the alleged unauthorised disclosure of information concerning search warrants executed in support of a Registered Organisations Commission investigation,’’ the spokesman said.
“As the matter is under investigation, the AFP will be making no further comment.”
A CDPP spokesman also confirmed the brief of evidence had been received from the AFP.
“The brief will now be assessed in accordance with the Prosecution Policy of the Commonwealth to determine if a prosecution should be initiated,’’ he said
“The CDPP is unable to provide any further information at this stage.”
Raids on Australian Workers Union offices in Sydney and Melbourne were widely publicised because a staffer within Senator Cash’s office tipped off a handful of media outlets.
