Hollywood star Amber Heard fires back at Barnaby Joyce
Hollywood star Amber Heard has weighed into the Barnaby Joyce dual-citizenship saga.
Hollywood star Amber Heard has weighed into the Barnaby Joyce dual-citizenship saga, tweeting that she had sent a box of kiwi fruit to the man who deported her dogs, Pistol and Boo.
The Deputy Prime Minister ordered the terriers, owned by Heard and her then husband, Johnny Depp, to “bugger off back to the United States” after she flew them in on a private jet while visiting Depp during filming of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie on the Gold Coast.
Heard was later placed on a good behaviour bond.
Yesterday she tweeted: “When @Barnaby_Joyce said ‘no one is above the law’ I didn’t realise he meant New Zealand law.”
She also said she had sent him a gift. “To comfort Mr Joyce in his hour of need, I have sent him a box of New Zealand’s finest kiwi fruit (assuming this passes his biosecurity laws).”
When Mr Joyce became aware of Pistol and Boo’s presence in Australia in 2015, he gave Depp 50 hours to get them out of the country.
“If we start letting movie stars ... to come into our nation (and break the laws), then why don’t we just break the laws for everybody?” he said. “If he doesn’t take Boo and Pistol back, we do have to euthanase them.
“The way this works is if we are going to make an excuse for Johnny Depp because he’s got a private jet and brought in his dogs then I suppose you have to start making exemptions and excuses for everybody.”
