Sydney maths teacher named in world’s top 10
Sydney’s Eddie Woo has been named one of the world’s top 10 teachers.
Eddie Woo’s exponential rise from Sydney maths teacher to YouTube sensation could soon make him a millionaire.
Mr Woo was today named one of the world’s top 10 teachers, putting him in line for the $US1 million ($1.4 million) Global Teacher Prize.
He will head to Dubai with the other finalists next month, when the winner of the lucrative award will be announced.
“I’m so excited about the possibilities this is going to unlock,” said Mr Woo, the head maths teacher at Cherrybrook Technology High School in northwest Sydney.
“The 10 of us represent the different facets of what thousands of great teachers do to serve their communities all over the world in all different ways.”
More than 30,000 teachers from 173 countries had been nominated, with the finalists from countries including Turkey, Brazil, The Philippines and Belgium.
It follows Mr Woo’s 2018 national Local Hero Award on Australia Day. His YouTube videos have been watched more than 11 million times.
