School resourcing board to review student disability funding calculations

The Michael Chaney-led school resourcing board will investigate how student disability funding is calculated.

The Michael Chaney-led school resourcing board will investigate how student disability funding is calculated to ensure that a forecast $22 billion of commonwealth aid is distributed fairly and consistently over the next decade.

Education Minister Dan Tehan yesterday announced the independent National School Resourcing Board would carry out the review, which will examine the three levels of funding adjustment for disability, as defined under the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on Students with a Disability.

Since the start of this year, schools have been entitled to top up funding based on the degree of a student’s disability, ranging from $4600 to $34,000 a secondary school student.
