Rock great Jimmy Barnes has slammed Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg for referencing one of his songs, claiming the government was using him to sell its “shitty policies”.

Barnes was left seething after Mr Frydenberg merely mentioned one of his songs at a press conference in the NSW town of Port Kembla yesterday, leading the aged singer to tweet: “you don’t represent me”.

Mr Frydenberg and Malcolm Turnbull were at the steelworks in Port Kembla yesterday selling the government’s energy policy and talking up its benefits for industrial businesses. Mr Frydenberg noted it was the same place Barnes came to make the film clip for his classic hit Working Class Man.

“More than 30 years ago Jimmy Barnes came to Port Kembla to make the film clip for Working Class Man. Today the Prime Minister has come to Port Kembla to create jobs for Australia’s working class men and women,” Mr Frydenberg said.

“The way we will do that, is by driving power prices lower.”

Barnes did not take it well.

“Hey Josh Frydenberg don’t use my name or my songs to sell your shitty policies. You don’t represent me,” he tweeted.
