Young Prince George pulled the trigger on a social media storm after he was photographed playing with a toy gun.

The future king was with Kate Middleton and his sister Princess Charlotte at the Maserati Royal Charity Polo Trophy at Beaufort Polo Club on Sunday.

Prince George and a friend appeared to be more interested in pretending to shoot their toy weapons.

Social media users were incensed that the Duchess of Cambridge, who gave birth less than two months ago, allowed her son to play with the toy with one user calling her “tone deaf.” Another user wrote “No child in this day and age should look at any gun as a fun toy” with another linking the incident to police violence against black Americans in the United States.

Completely tone deaf of Kate Middling to give Prince George a toy gun. Doesn’t she read the papers in her own country with all the gun deaths? If the Duchess of Sussex had done this, she would be excoriated in the media! Lucky George isn’t black or police would have shot him.

Other users ridiculed those offended with one woman telling users “leave the boy alone and let him be a child.” Another said the prince was acting “like every other normal child in the world”.

Four-year-old George, perhaps realising he’d inspired countless hot takes on systemic gun violence and political correctness, later played with a rainbow slinky. Princess Charlotte played with the less controversial toy choice of sunglasses.
