Queen marks 65th anniversary of coronation with low-key celebrations
Queen Elizabeth II has marked the 65th anniversary of her coronation with low-key celebrations.
Britain’s longest-serving monarch has added another year to her reign with Queen Elizabeth II today commemorating 65 years since she was crowned.
After a busy month for the Royal Family, including the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the 92-year-old kept celebrations low key and did not make a public appearance to mark the occasion.
The Queen’s birthday next week will be a more celebratory affair with the annual Trooping of the Colour parade in London.
She congratulated recipients of the Queen’s Award for Volunteer Service, which she established in 2002 to mark her Golden Jubilee.
The Queen was crowned at Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953, 14 months after she ascended to the throne, aged 25, after the death of her father King George VI.
She is the Britain’s seventh female monarch and has reigned for more than six decades.
New statues of the Queen and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh have been installed at Norwich Cathedral to commemorate her coronation.
