No makeup, no wigs but an impressive acting talent are on show in the first trailer of Lady Gaga’s highly anticipated debut film A Star is Born.

The trailer of the movie, co-starring Bradley Cooper, has been released on the internet to widespread praise.

Gaga plays Ally, an aspiring singer taken under the wing of Cooper’s fading country singer Jackson Maine, whose own career goes into decline as Ally’s star rises. Cooper also co-wrote and directed the film.

The film is the third remake of the 1937 film starring Janet Gaynor and Frederic March. It was remade in 1954, with Judy Garland and James Mason in the lead roles, then again in a 1976 rock musical version that starred Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

Gaga said making the movie was “a dream come true and an honour …”

Among those praising her debut was Katy Perry, who tweeted: “I’m screaming”.

Director and screenwriter Joss Whedon tweeted how he had changed his mind about Gaga’s acting after seeing the trailer.

Some Twitter users even suggested Gaga and Cooper could be in line for an Oscar next year.

Gaga also co-wrote with Cooper and other artists some new songs for the film, which is scheduled to open in October.
