HOLLYWOOD star Harrison Ford is expected to make a full recovery after being injured when a small plane he was piloting crashed on a golf course near Los Angeles.
The 72-year-old Indiana Jones star suffered multiple gashes to his head when the vintage two-seater plane crashed.
A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said Ford had been critically injured.
The crash happened at the Penmar Golf Course in Venice, southwest of Los Angeles.
“When we arrived on scene we had a small aircraft that was down on Penmar Golf Course, near the Santa Monica airport,” the fire department spokesman said.
“We had a solo occupant, an adult male, who was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Fortunately, no one (else) was injured.”
Witnesses were reported as saying Ford was helped out of the plane, and that he could use his legs. TV footage showed the plane had torn up a stretch of grass on the golf course before coming to a halt.
Ford is married to Calista Flockhart, 50, and they have a son Liam, 14. Last June, Ford broke his leg on the set of the new Star Wars movie at Pinewood Studios, outside London.
Filming began in May on the new episode of the franchise, directed by blockbuster filmmaker JJ Abrams. Ford is back as Han Solo, Mark Hamill will return as Jedi knight Luke Skywalker and Carrie Fisher reprises the role of Princess Leia.
