Donald Trump has hit out at the “evil” and “treasonous” people who helped trigger the Mueller investigation saying no president should ever be subjected to such an ordeal again.

Mr Trump also said he believed the Special Counsel, Robert Mueller acted honourably in his findings — a sharp contrast to the President’s previous demonisation of Mr Mueller and his team. Mr Trump also said he supported the full release of the report.

Speaking a day after the Mueller report cleared the president and his aides of any collusion with Russia, an angry Mr Trump turned the focus back on those who initiated the Russia probe.

“There are a lot of people out there that have done some very evil things, very bad things — I would say treasonous things against our country,” he said. “It was a false narrative, it was a terrible thing.

“We can never let this happen to another president again. I can tell you that. I say it very strongly. Very few people I know could have handled it. We can never ever let this happen to another president again.

“Those people will certainly be looked at. I’ve been looking at them a long time and I’m saying why haven’t they been looked at. They lied to Congress. Many of them. They’ve done so many evil things.”

Mr Trump did not name the people, although he has previously attacked the FBI and especially its former director James Comey for what he has called a politically motivated witch hunt against him and its reluctance to direct an equal focus upon Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

But when asked of Mr Mueller behaved honourably in his report, Mr Trump replied “yes he did.”

The White House moved quickly today to attack Mr Trump’s opponents, including the Democrats and some in the media, for their obsession with Mr Mueller’s Russia investigation.

Senior Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway said the president’s accusers “owe America an apology” for their “haranguing and harassing” of Trump and his inner circle over the Russia probe.

She was especially critical of Democrat House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff for repeatedly claiming that there was obvious evidence of collusion with Russia and obstruction of justice.

“He ought to resign today,” she said. “He has been on every TV show 50 times a day for practically the last two years promising Americans that the President would be impeached or indicted.”

Democrats have zeroed in on Mr Mueller’s decision not to exonerate the President on the issue of whether he obstructed justice even though Mr Mueller said there was not enough evidence to prove a crime.

In the face of Mr Mueller’s indecision on obstruction charges, the Attorney-General William Barr reviewed Mr Mueller’s evidence and concluded that there was not enough to levy charges against the president.

Democrats say Mr Barr — as an appointee of the president — is not a neutral player and they have demanded the full release of the Mueller report to examine all the evidence.

“In light of the very concerning discrepancies and final decision making at the Justice Department … we will be calling Attorney General Barr to testify in the near future,’ the Democrat head of the House Judiciary Committee Jerrold Nadler said.

It was revealed today that Mr Mueller told the Justice Department three weeks ago that he was unable to reach a definitive conclusion on whether the President obstructed justice in his actions relating to the Russia investigation.

The findings of the Mueller probe were a significant win for Mr Trump, his family and his current aides because it found there was no collusion with Russia and did not recommended any charges against them.

Mr Trump has called it “a complete and total exoneration,” but Democrats dispute this, pointing out that Mr Mueller did not exonerate the president on obstruction of justice but merely could not gather the evidence to prove the issue beyond reasonable doubt.

The Democrats are pushing for the complete release on the Mueller report to see what the Special Counsel based his conclusions on. Mr Barr has promised he will reveal as much of the report as he can consistent with the law.

Mr Trump said today “it wouldn’t bother me at all” if the report was released.
