A man has been charged with murder after his young wife was found stabbed to death inside the couple’s home in Sydney northwest on Wednesday night.
Baltej Lailna, 31, is accused of stabbing Kamaljeet Sidhu, 27, to death at their home in Quakers Hill.
Emergency services were called to a home on Ramona Street about 6.30pm on Wednesday following a phone call from Ms Sidhu’s brother, who had found his sister with a knife wound to her throat.
“Police attended immediately, located the brother outside and had a conversation. They entered into the unit and found the accused located in the hallway, immediately outside the bedroom, with a female deceased on the floor,” NSW Police Superintendent Jennifer Scholz said on Thursday.
The couple had moved from India to Australia two years ago and had been married for four years.
Neighbours said they had heard “screaming” coming from inside the home on Wednesday night.
“I was taking the rubbish bins out and I heard screams and after that the police and ambulance came,” neighbour Muhammad Nazri said on Thursday.
“It was scary,” another neighbour, Supruya Mittal. said. “Scary what can happen here and it can impact on children.”
Mr Lailna was taken to Riverstone Police Station on Thursday night and charged with his wife’s murder.
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Friday.
