Watch Teacher’s Pet creator Hedley Thomas in a raw interview on Chris Dawson: ‘I think he’s pathetic’
Investigative journalist Hedley Thomas reveals the real story behind The Teacher’s Pet podcast, plus his thoughts on judges, lawyers and Chris Dawson | WATCH
Hedley Thomas thinks Chris Dawson is pathetic.
The investigative journalist who brought the former rugby league star before the courts — through his work on the global smash-hit podcast The Teacher’s Pet — has sat down with The Australian’s editorial director Claire Harvey for a raw and unfiltered interview.
Dawson — who has consistently denied any involvement in the 1982 disappearance of his wife Lynette — was heard in tapped phone calls tendered during his murder trial calling Hedley Thomas a “f...king wanker” and railing at the Teacher’s Pet, which he claimed unfairly made him out to be a killer.
After the podcast aired, Dawson was charged with murdering Lyn.
This had been recommended by two coroners after exhaustive inquests, but the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions only charged Dawson after The Teacher’s Pet became a global phenomenon, with more than 60 million worldwide downloads.
In the interview, Thomas is asked what he thinks of Dawson.
“I think he’s pathetic. I think Chris Dawson has been lying to so many people for so long,” Thomas says.
“He may have even persuaded himself that he‘s done nothing wrong. I think he’s been scheming and manipulating and lying. For at least 40 years. And. I hope that he is appropriately punished for it.”
